Even though I wrote this piece last year, it is my first publication of 2023 and, upon rereading the piece, love how fitting a piece it feels upon which to enter the new year.
It is time to write poetry and feel the words wax and wan within me. The tea curls hot in my chipped cup and, infused with music and sweet marzipan, I write.
Chocolate hearts and peppermint sahuaro kisses. Cups over which steam dances. The caramel and mistletoe . . .
He sits in there under yellow tree ablaze with leaves freshly fallen across the rich earth, his mortality curling and wisping in the air . . .
Grey rock and liquid gold sunshine. Ocean at the end of the world kisses my feet on infinity sand. . . .
He sits there in shadow with concrete lacings on his skin and mortality in his eye. River rock and pebble root him to the black earth. Urban landscape abounds . . .
Silver bell chime at midnight. Vibration ripples through my brittle bones as soft beeswax candle casts halo on silk . . .
I have the body of a goddess. Porcelain eyes that make you bleed into sunset and liquid silk inked over with wine . . .
I stand here with my feet laced to the ebony ground brimming with crystalline rage . . .
