Winter Minutes

Winter Minutes Poem

The road snakes through the neighborhood

A dark line that leads past promise

As it fades in the pale winter sunshine.

He sits in there

Under yellow tree ablaze

With leaves freshly fallen across the rich earth

His mortality curling and wisping in the air.

He looks at the world through marble eyes

The clock counts down as it travels the sky

Same diamond hours each afternoon

Quietly, until covered in shadow, he perceives beauty as it

Unfolds uniquely before him each day.

Simple life and simpler wish

The road leads on to cottage or palace while

Ablaze in winter sunshine

Cacti blossoms and gratitude flowers.

A wonderful addition to my day when I can read poet Jaya. 😊 Many details to enjoy here… this line stood out to me: “A dark line that leads past promise” and the last line. Beautiful phrasing. 🌸

I don’t see the picture in my notification window. Sometimes it comes up and sometimes it doesn’t. “yellow tree ablaze”… That’s so true. They do look quite ablaze…

I love it how you begin with the road and end with it too. Like bookends:
The road snakes/leads, first the sun is pale and then it’s ablaze in sunshine AND
Cacti blossoms… and GRATITUDE FLOWERS (a verb!) majestically lovely. How glorious. Thanks so much 👏
