Poetry & Prose Published at Free Verse Revolution!
I am delighted to be published at Free Verse Revolution in the magazine’s fourth and final literary issue of 2021 with a poem and piece of prose!
Issue IV: Hades (the unseen) tackles themes of grief and loss and love and connection through evocative storytelling, stories inspired by real-life experiences, and reflective photography. Featuring the works of over two dozen creatives, each piece of writing is alive with rich imagery as found in classical paintings, feminism, and simple emotion that becomes beautifully relatable. To be published at Free Verse Revolution in this lovely issue is a satisfying way for me to end the year.
When faced with the inspiration to write about Hades, the Greek God of the underworld, I turned first to ideas of the hardship of being misunderstood, the sorrow of loneliness, and the sweet tang of pomegranate. I thought about the things I see people ignore.
I want the unseen to be beautiful. I want to find it and discover it kind and gentle. This is not always the case. Sometimes the unseen rushes up on us and embodies our worst imaginings. We take a chance only to find ourselves beguiled by our own hearts.
Write about the numbered ideas that come to your mind in response to a theme. Sift down to the essence of your love of something. Fine-tune your understanding of a theme. Hades and the unseen could, at first glance, be the same subject. Look deeper. Hades and the unseen have different stories to tell.
My prose piece, Finale, is a poetic account of a wedding I where recently assisted with the catering. Trust me, the occasion was elegant and gorgeous! The following is a short excerpt.
We stand in the background lighting candles to drive away the purple dusk smears and polish the fragile stems of wine glasses without chipping our nails. We uncork wine and let it flow freely among the bodies dressed in white . . .
My pieces are on pages 124 & 125 of Issue IV: Hades (the unseen). The issue is available to download via this link, or through the issues page at Free Verse Revolution. Please enjoy the issue as a whole this Christmas Eve and lose yourself to the mythic and alluring pull of the writing.
Happy holidays! As always, please do share share your beautiful thoughts.

I read your piece Finale the other day when I was reading Ingrid’s piece. The whole piece is magnificent, and this is just stunning, “ I dare to think we are the window frames completing the picture. We are the quiet feeling of stability in memory; the knowledge that it was an amazing day, and everything was perfect, but they still cannot quite place why.” I loved this. Bravo, Jaya!

I love the perspective of seeing and writing about that which others neglect / don’t see. Everything has multiple sides to it and it is so refreshing to receive more than one view on a matter. Congrats on your achievement!
