Venetian Slate

Venetian Slate Poem

Black as the velveteen licorice

Melting into midnight on your tongue,

I invite your resolutions.

Curving letters make your wrist ache

Each serif juts off the page

Cuts you a little

Enriches the chalk.

Walk the crossroads at twilight

In pale pea green tea dress

Nightingale and compass

Fiery dawn!

Daffodil’s infinite

Unyielding spring and resolve

This, the last word of your year

Embalmed in sugar syrup and sassafras.

Happy New Year! Thank you for coming along with me on yet another twelve months of my writing journey. I hope you will continue to walk with me into 2022 and beyond. May the words flow!
