About my poem

This is a poem I wrote several years ago when I was just beginning to fall in love with poetry. As a beginner poet, I was fascinated by the concept of time. Indeed, it is a theme that still captures my attention and informs the direction of much of my work. It feels right then that this poem should come full circle and find a home at Masticadores USA.

Rippling in the sand
Pouring through the
Fine waist of an hourglass

Love the line “a circus of thought/Caught between now and then.” Our thoughts are always chaotic and amorphous. Well, I don’t know. If I try to control it, the writing become awkward or artificial; if I don’t try to control it, it becomes a rant and an endless rambling. And keeping a balance is never my strength. LOL.

The way you use language to convey the seen and the unseen, and the felt and only hinted at feeling is inspirational. Gorgeous write, Layla! Congratulations! ❤️

😂 This is such a sweet comment, Michele! Perhaps I was born a poet and did not fully grow into until those several years ago. 🤍
