‘Dawn’ Published at Mookychick!

Dawn Poetry Published at Mookychick

I am proud to share my poem, Dawn, is published at Mookychick, an online magazine of mystics, poets, and divine writers!

Mookychick is a “passion project done for the love, not the money . . . Mookychick is like water – babbling, tranquil, charged, unquiet, delicate, ferocious, restorative and deep. Its spirit is both flowers and owls. We are a watering hole where all come to drink, with a focus on meaningful empowerment and sex, body and mind positivity in every aspect of alternative culture.”

Folklore and magic are a part of my life. After cooking at a witch camp in 2019 and experiencing the culture of ritual, song, dance, astrology, and tarot card reading, Mookychick embodied the life I lived among the teachers and students of the mystic and divine, and many of the musings and stories I carry with me day to day.

Curiously, in a fit of writer’s obstinacy, I submitted first a poem to Mookychick I knew would be rejected many months ago. I wanted the poem to be good enough; I wanted the poem to fit the feel of Mookychick yet, ultimately, I knew the outcome of my query before I received the rejection letter.

I challenged myself to write something worthy of this feminist journal. Places that harbor and share beautiful writing look only for beautiful writing.

To fully understand the style and topic Mookychick looks for, I did something I have often seen listed as must-do advice for writers submitting to new places, but often something I used to neglect to carry out thoroughly.

I spent a day browsing Mookychick’s creative writing archives, encountering writers with fairytales and dark lore flowing from their pens. I bathed in style and poetic topic and then I wrote my poem. This time I sent in my writing with confidence I had done all I could, as a writer, to send writing Mookychick wanted to share.

Today I am writing this.

I am heartened to know I cannot meet success with every poem I submit. Rejection is my reason to learn and evolve and turn those rejections into better writing.

Like the dawn, I will continue to rise, be it for awe or for worse.

Thank you for your encouragement and for holding a space for me to share my creative writing endeavors! Please enjoy Dawn and find your reason to keep rising.

When I was born

Too many stars winked in the sky and

The ocean almost drowned in moons . . . please continue reading here and feel free to share your beautiful thoughts!

I love when you said, “rejection is my reason to learn and evolve” it’s such a good way of handling setbacks. The eager we learn and determined to be better, the less there is to care for losses because we only see them as a means to further improve ourselves 😊 Congratulations again, Jaya! You did it so well this time. xx
