‘Trail of Cohosh’ Published at Free Verse Revolution!

Trail of Cohosh Poem Published at Free Verse Revolution

I am delighted to share that my poem, Trail of Cohosh, is published at Free Verse Revolution!

Free Verse Revolution delights in sharing the writing of writers around the world written in response to its monthly theme. October’s theme is reflection, a feeling I think is deeply connected to autumn.

I wrote Trail of Cohosh in response to a previous monthly theme on Free Verse Revolution, but it was not published and another writer had the opportunity to share their words with the world instead. This brought me as much happiness as sharing my own writing.

I held onto Trail of Cohosh; it is good writing.

September at Free Verse Revolution came and I wrote a poem, now published, for it.

Heading into October, I loved the new theme ‘reflection‘ but I was not called to write anything. Then I happened to open my Trail of Cohosh document and was struck at how perfectly the writing commemorated reflection.

I take this experience as a reminder that there is a home for everything I write. Write what you love and find a home for it after your passion is down in words. Conversely, find something you are interested in submitting to or writing for and still find your way to write what you love.

I invite you to enjoy Trail of Cohosh, experience the journey, and keep journeying.

Touch tears from your cheeks

To your fingertips

To the grass

When you come full circle

Only to find the ash of your smile

Dusted across a valentine

Stale with glue.

It hurts to kneel

To whispers of lost loves and dreams

Stings to wonder at the outcome

Of different paths taken.

Briars lose their thorns

When your skin is thicker than

The nightmares at the end of their needles

So circle the places

Where you let go of false pride and

Picked up integrity at the break of dawn.

Mark the places

Where you added another piece to your heart

Puzzled over the watermelon seeds

Hiding in the rotting gut of pain and

Learned valentines grow stale

If you do not let them go.

Please share your beautiful thoughts!

Congratulations, Jaya – this is a wonderful poem and I was glad to see it at FVR. I love that you didn’t give up on it because you recognised the integrity of the work. I used to be guilty of giving up on everything I got rejected, but I’ve started to view this differently recently.
