‘Take Time’ Published at Free Verse Revolution!
I am delighted to share my poem, Take Time, is published at Free Verse Revolution!
Free Verse Revolution shares writing from around the world, celebrating the unique perspective of individual writers. I am honored to be part of the collective of monthly poems this month!
As I am currently working on putting together a poetry book with the intention of publishing it, I find my style of writing can change. For my book, I was inexplicably drawn to writing about the places and people where I live so I decided to roll with it. Take Time is the first poem I share here that has hints of the voice I discovered while working on my book in it.
I was inspired to write this poem walking outside one night. It was a cool night that seemed to border the ending heat of summer and the coming chill of fall and, as I was standing under the night sky with nothing on my mind, the new moon rose above the trees ringed by light that was so yellow, I instantly thought of dawn.
Take Time is also a gentle reminder to myself not to rush the writing but to enjoy the process and cherish the self-discovery it brings.
I invite you to enjoy Take Time, maybe cherish it, and discover something new.
On nights when the moon
Rises above the trees
Haloed by sunlight
You see your own eyes
In the indigo sky
Draw lines with the tip of your heart
Between the constellations
Dare to turn the stars
To fit your vision
Of the afterlife.
No thoughts of dying
Of being blown away
Like a snowflake on the summer wind
In the presence
Of a million cicadas
Life is eternal
The cicadas crawl over their own
Shed shells.
You die on a bed of pomegranates
Split open
Or breathe the scent of jasmine to
The naked ticks of the clock
At the second between
Blackness and dawn
As many times as the moon lies flat in the ocean
Realize every day is the afterlife
Realize it is now.
Please do, as always, feel free to share your beautiful thoughts!

Congratulations on another publication! Wow, I lost track of how many works you have published at this point hehe. I love that the poem just outlines the beauty of night time. There’s no rush and there is still beauty no matter the time of the day!

I shall indeed keep you posted as to the progress of my book; I currently only have the poems in the works and have yet to order them into a book, so to speak, much less look into publishing options!
Thank you for your well wishes and all the best to you as well, Ingrid!
