When you think of Valentine’s Day gifts for writers, you might think of pretty notebooks and engraved leather journals, stationery, and pens. Somewhere along the line you think of mugs adorned with literary quotes, ink-and-quill sets, and office art.

Last to come to mind is jewelry. Jewelry does not scream give me to the writers in your life, but it is as welcome a gift to a writer as the cutest notebook you can find at your convenience store.  Not yet convinced? Keep reading!

4 reasons why jewelry is a must-give Valentine’s Day gift for writers this year.

Here is why jewelry is an amazing Valentine’s Day gift for writers!

Writers attend events.

These events include book signings, conferences, writing workshops, and masterclasses. And, when speaking at a workshop, meeting with one’s agent, or signing books, it is important to dress for the occasion.

Writers will want to observe the rules of style and accessorize their outfits with complementary colors and textures. While scarves, the right shoes, and a purse go a long way in bringing an outfit together, a great way to accessorize and highlight is with jewelry. A unique piece of jewelry catches the eye and serves as a good conversation starter.

Writers live outside of writing.

Writers go out with their friends or partners for dinner. They travel and visit family. Writers attend parties and celebrations, and every moment is an opportunity to wear jewelry.

Jewelry is timeless.

Clothing trends change in the blink of an eye, but a good piece of jewelry is timeless. Mix and match jewelry against the latest fashions to create an endless creative combination of outfits! Writers may be passionate about the pen, but we are also fashionistas and beauty connoisseurs, and we want to look as classy as the rest of y’all.

Jewelry can be worn every day!

Finally, unlike party dresses and your best pair of heels, jewelry can be worn every day. I wear a mix of seven copper and silver bracelets, two copper rings, earrings, and often a pendant on a regular basis. The copper shine and silver touch make me feel complete and I am always happy to find space on my wrist for the next bangle I fall in love with.

Where to find affordable quality jewelry

Rings, pendants, brooches, chains, earrings, and bracelets all make lovely Valentine’s Day gifts for writers. You could easily pick up costume jewelry at thrift shops and in most department store checkout aisles, but I am talking about gifting quality jewelry that will last a long time.

I get it; it is tough to find the perfect piece of jewelry to gift to the writer in your life with endless options at your fingertips. So, where can you find quality jewelry at an affordable price?

Here is where to find the best Valentine’s Day jewelry gifts for writers!

Check out creator shops on Etsy.

There are hundreds of jewelers selling their jewelry on Etsy. You can find hammered copper bracelets, silver-and-gemstone pendants, and handmade earrings across a wide range of price points and locations by searching.

Explore your local gift and art shops

Local gift and art shops usually offer the creations of local artists and craftspeople. It is likely you will find jewelry handmade by an area artisan that is perfect for the writer you are shopping for. Look for unusual pieces made of silver, copper, or gold with gemstone centerpieces and gemstone and glass beads.

Search boutiques and gift shops online.

Even if you are not able to visit a gift shop, most gift shops these days have an online presence, so it is likely you can buy online by browsing boutique and gift shops online stores. You will be supporting gifted artisans and gifting a piece of jewelry that will be worn for years.

Check out specialty online and in-store jewelry shops!

Many shops focus only on offering quality jewelry pieces made of silver, gold, and precious gems. One such shop is AC Silver, a vintage and antique jewelry boutique that offers a wide selection of quality vintage jewellery.

If you are looking for something traditional, eye-catching, and simply elegant, these specialty shops are the place to go!

Bonus: I am a Writer. Do I love Jewelry?

Yes! I love jewelry. I enjoy writing about jewelry as much as I love wearing it. Describing a quirky ring gives character to a scene, while wearing a bracelet pretty and precious enough to love adds to my character.

One of my favorite gifts to have received is a beautiful Lexington Brick silver bracelet. It is now a staple on my wrist, alongside six other assorted silver and copper bands.

Jewellery is a great gift you can’t go wrong with! Earrings are my favourite piece of jewellery both to buy and receive as gifts since I love to switch to a new pair every couple of days. I will definitely be checking out the etsy shops.

I feel as though jewelry is one of those gifts that can’t go wrong. There’s something for everyone. Minimal, bold, geeky, etc. – everyone has an option! I don’t personally own much jewelry and I mostly stick with small earrings and simple necklaces (aside from my wedding rings) but I still wouldn’t mind receiving jewelry at any point. So I’m glad for this inspiration as a gift option for writers – and beyond – in my life!

  23. gemmaajaynee

I am a huge jewellery lover and especially those independent or Etsy brands. I tend to stick with wearing silver because I have had bad reactions to gold but I do love the look of gold I just don’t wear it. My partner also made me a wooden ring which I wear all the time and love (I guess it is more personal). But I agree most people would think a book lover should have gifts to do with that but that is and should not be the case 🙂

    1. Jaya Avendel

Handmade jewelry has such a special meaning! Love the sounds of your ring; thank you for sharing that little story. 🙂

  24. Infinite Living

Wow you have said it all so perfectly, all that I didn’t think of saying but agree with you so much! You have sparked my interest in starting to wear jewelry all over again – I had forgotten my love for them for a while now, keeping them as a very occasional addition to my attire to somewhere special. I think now I would like to add characrter to my day and myself – just like how beautiful your bracelets are – something that I would love to have on. Will see what that would be 🙂

    1. Jaya Avendel

Thank you so very deeply for sharing these words with me!

  25. Lamittan Minsah

I couldn’t agree more. Seems this is why I was overjoyed when a friend gifted me a classic watch way back in 2019. It seemed to resonate with something in me I couldn’t properly define then. But now with this, I know exactly why jewels and ornaments are a pretty gift to writers. Best of the best, Jaya. Thanks for sharing.

  26. Cindy Georgakas

    GREAT post Jaya!
A gift to every girls heart!

Need to show this post to my husband before it’s too late! <3 I hope he’ll get the hint. Also as a blogger jewelry is so important. I always need to be visible online and make new pictures, and jewelry finish every look. Thanks!

  31. paeansunplugged

Wonderful post, Jaya! I wonder why people think writers should be gifted only journals and notebooks. I love your jewellery pieces…very eclectic!

    1. Jaya Avendel

Getting the same old thing time and time again gets tiring, doesn’t it? Love that you enjoyed this post and thank you for sharing your thoughts!

      1. paeansunplugged

It does get tiring for sure. You are so welcome.

  33. Ingrid

A lovely post, Jaya, and a reminder that writers have lives outside of writing! (Though it doesn’t always feel that way 😅)

    1. Jaya Avendel

Thank you, Ingrid! I feel ya, but sometimes a little reminder goes a long way. 🙂
