‘The Smile’ Published at Visual Verse!
I am dancing with happiness to share that my poem, The Smile, has been published in Volume 07, Chapter 07 of Visual Verse’s monthly ongoing online anthology!
Visual Verse celebrates the things we find hardest to articulate and the emotions we struggle to name by providing a monthly image. Poets and writers are given one hour to write a piece and submit it for consideration to be published in the monthly online anthology of short fiction, prose, and poetry.
You can view this month’s online anthology of writing here and explore the different perspectives one image has brought a host of skilled writers.
Even though my previously submitted poems to Visual Verse have always been rejected, I was inspired by May’s photo prompt and the buttercups currently growing in my yard to write another poem. Because it is more about enjoying writing a poem to me then being accepted, I sent it off to try its fate.
The writing at Visual Verse is always rich with emotions, history, culture and imagery. Culture and history especially are things I feel I am lacking in, but today I celebrate because the acceptance of The Smile means I have learned and improved my writing. It means I have grown and changed, even if the change has been slow. I have read the work of other poets and writers and seen how they make emotions and imagery work for them, because we learn best from people who have already found their flow.
As we all continue our writing journeys, we cannot help but grow. We grow in the smallest ways when we connect with one well-written line, or when we connect with an emotion and subconsciously learn how to replicate that feeling in our own way.
So, I invite you to enjoy The Smile without further ado!

Left over from last year and . . . please continue reading here and feel free to share your lovely thoughts with me!
