Affair
There is an empire inside me
Build of a thousand inkstands.
A kingdom of words
Where pens are knights
Dueling over nouns and
Adjectives are slaves
At the shorn points of quills.
This is the empire
Of a writer
Where words cannot flow
If the ink is dry.
I dip my indigo medium
In passion
And write with scarlet love.

This poem is so beautiful! I loved reading it! The theme of writing is central to every writer’s heart, and you have elucidated this and the impetus behind it so well!

I have a problem, I’m love with this blogger. Her writing does things to me, what should I do?
Jaya Avendel
🙃 In your shoes, I would write what her writing does to you and find clarity.

This one is so lovely! That’s a really interesting way to think of writing. It’s like creating a whole world with just your pen or your keyboard.

Love the idea of comparing your words to an empire, that’s such a powerful concept! Lovely poem.

What a fantabulous description of a writer’s empire!! Let’s not let that ink dry. 😊
Jaya Avendel
Never! I love to say ‘may the words flow’.

Oh, another fabulous one! This evokes so much emotion and I love how you have described “A kingdom of words, the knights are pens”. I love how you capture writer’s block (well how I interpreted it anyway) as I think we can all suffer from that, especially when either writing poems or blog posts!
Fantastic piece!

Block is something that always comes up for me. Writing through it by writing about it is my favorite way to combat it! 🙂

Very creative, great work!

You really are a Queen in the Empire of Words because you have the precious power to make the words become real sensations and real sensations become words.
Best compliments again and again!
Jaya Avendel
Thank you kindly! I revised this piece until it spoke to me. I love that it spoke to you.

Wow, this is fabulous, Jaya. “Pens are knights”, “empire of a writer” are my favourites. I think I mentioned to you before WB Yeats’ poem about dragging the balloon of the mind into a shed to shape his poetry but I truly believe this is so much better, it’s so passionate and evocative. Love it, I hope you submit it somewhere for wider publication! x
Jaya Avendel
Thank you for the encouragement, Lisa! I am constantly on the lookout for new places to send my writing too, and this piece will definitely have to be shared further in the future. 🙂

Oh, this is remarkable and innovative Jaya. How mesmerizing to compare the different aspects of writing to empires and kingdoms. I really adored these lines:
“Adjectives are slaves
At the shorn points of quills.”
They really are! We always use them. Brilliant work here, yet again, Jaya. There is so much life and vibrancy in your pieces, and I love the energy along with the word-flow in this one. It’s amazing.
Jaya Avendel
There is indeed a lot of vibrancy in any word well-used. That is why I love the power of writing.
Thanks so much for sharing your amazing thoughts!
