Murder feels like silk
I saw you across the street
Air thick with the shimmering breath of silk
You blurred into the bizarre.
You own it, live it, face it.
In opening your book of life
At the prologue
Midnight thoughts spilled out
Need for vengeance raw
No illusioned
“I will get away with it”.
You own it, live it, face it.
In finding closure you
Told them
“Yes, I killed him,” and
Smiled at the pity (respect) you found
In their eyes.
I saw it on the news
The color of your guilt luminous yet still
I found it beautiful.

I love the title of this poem. It makes me think of how we slip into and wear intense emotions like a fine garment sometimes. For the person speaking in the poem, I feel like I shouldn’t like them and yet I have this respect for the confidence and blatant honesty that I feel is portrayed. So intriguing! Thank you for taking me on a journey 🙂

Jaya, so dramatic! Love the use of parallelism and the line, “You blurred into the bizarre” is brilliant!

What a gorgeous poem. I particularly enjoyed the shimmering breathe of silk and the way you played bizarre off of this; I also love the way you used pity and respect at the end. The depth is astonishing. Beautiful, Jaya.

A tantalising tale! It’s complete in itself, yet I would like to know the backstory…

I confess I have been watching crime shows of late and I began to notice the repetition of how murderers, once caught, have nothing to show or say for themselves. This poem is inspired by the idea of a person who has perhaps committed murder as the last option left to her and is not ashamed of what she has done.
Thank you for asking, Ingrid!
