Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty Poems

It chimed at midnight and so awoke me from a slumber permeated with dreams that spread like an ink blot on paper. I watched then the moon creep across the floor until it alighted on silken bedspread.

Like a needle threaded through with silver, it embroidered ivy and roses heavy along the hem. When the cloth touched the floor, I felt the night sigh. And that sigh settled in my body, settled in my bones, released me from the want of a prince.

I set foot on the cool floor, walked out onto the balcony. The velvet that was the air clothed me and I set out for the sunrise bower as the bell rang once, as the bell rang twice and the third peal broke the horizon.

“released me from the want of a prince” We are at the mercy of our desires, but the irony is, when we cease to desire something, it often appears! Lovely flash fiction, Layla!
