Since Becoming A Writer

Since Becoming A Writer Poem

The ripples on the pond tell a story

Each frigid lap of green copper water

Is breath to the white-gold fish

If I were Russian, I would dive in

Oxygen bubbles disrupted

Me, the ice in the champagne flute.

If I were the wind, I would swim

Snapping turtle with amber eyes a

Shadow beneath me.

The snow stings my toes

Plasters my nails with white chocolate hearts.

Six thousand, seven hundred, and eight trees

In my immediate view. I counted them

Floating in the breeze while the

Sun kissed my lips.

Not one perfect tree among them

The dendrologists say but

Artists find every limb worthy of watercolor.

Gorgeous piece of writing, Jaya. My favourite is the last verse – it’s so true, just because something doesn’t meet technical criteria doesn’t mean it hasn’t got it’s own beauty and unique characteristics 🙂
