Insight tastes like finger food

Insight Tastes Like Finger food Soul Food Poetry Poem by Jaya Avendel

Edges of my caramelized heart

Snap with goat’s cheese

Blackberry jam aged and cutting with seeds

Red wine reflects in the whites

Blood drop of chocolate for tart.

Because I think pecans and parmesan taste

Like sepia marriage photos;

Sweet cut by urban tang

I pair them on my cheeseboard.

Everyone goes for the cheddar.

I eat the leftovers later

Crumbs stick to my fingers

Pecans and parmesan slivered by

Unpolished wedding ring.

Everyone goes for the cheddar.

Quite intriguing how you paint the image through the food. Yet it is kind of dark. Do you reflect dark moments through it or do you feel that you have a dark side? … I mean we all have our shades, and no one is always shining bright, but yet, this sounds like there is something dark in you (not meant to be negative).

This was so much fun! And yet, I felt, weaved with a theme of rejection which shouldn’t be fun. I feel like the “everyone goes for the cheddar” line was so unexpected that I loved it so much. Heartbreaking and funny and that’s how life is, isn’t it? 🙂

“Sweet cut by urban tang” is an epic line, Jaya. Love it. And, of course everything goes on the cheeseboard; just like in “my caramelized heart.” Love the verses, my friend.

Blood drop for the chocolate heart – sounds amazing. It brings to mind lavish picnics and then having the heart broken. A very intuitive poem!

  20. Unwanted Life

Another great poem well paired with its picture. One thing though, I don’t like or eat pecans, but is it common to have them with a cheeseboard and a nice chocolate tart?

    1. Jaya Avendel

Most cheeseboards I have encountered do not combine pecans and parmesan, but pecans and chocolate make a fine pairing and I have seen them on creative spreads. 🙂
