Occupation

Occupation Poem by Jaya Avendel-A Self love Poem

The sky seems wide but not enough

For me to fly unless I

Shrink small

Fold my wings into myself

I stretch my arms away from my body

Pink sunset tickles my skin

My fingers brush the corners of the world

Nails scratch against the galaxy

Liquid chill streaks through me

In my eyes a star is born

From my iris, loose, it wanders

Frozen, I stand in occupation.

This reminds me of the ending in Men in Black, when the aliens are using worlds and galaxies as bowling balls! Sorry for the trite movie reference, Jaya, but I do love these lines: “My fingers brush the corners of the world, Nails scratch against the galaxy” – it makes me think of how small we are in the great scheme of the cosmos. Beautiful poem x

    1. Jaya Avendel

🙂 Thank you, Lisa, for sharing the awesome way you read this!

    2. Unwanted Life

I’m with you on the Men in Black feeling. It also reminds me of watching a tonne of documentaries about space, the universe, and the cosmos.

But it also seems like there’s a fear of the large unknown which is causing the person to turn in on themself rather than taking the risk and exploring
