Hypocrisy
What pride she has
She holds close to her crystal chest.
Under a veil of starlight
She gives shame another name and seeks to ignore it.
On a cold autumn morn
With summer singing in the leaves
She stands up for
Her beloveds and
Raises her chin to the moon.
What venom there is in eyes
She gathers in her cup.
When all is done and
Her sword arm wearies
She gives in to what she cannot hide and
Turns to the child, instigator, beside her
And spanks her for her actions.
A queen’s beauty is deceptive
Her faces warp between kind and cruel and
The line between them is too thin to see.
Despite her willingness to disregard her heart
She lures you back to her bosom
Apologizing
Apologizing
For the deed she will
Do again in the future.
Kings call these women queens
Too many children call them mothers.

Wow! What an honest poem! Congratulations for writing about the subject of abusive mothers, which very few people have written about!

Very well written and may be sad but true aswell. So powerful!

This is beautiful and so powerful! I love these longer pieces from you!

Such a wonderful and well-written piece, Jaya. You just described a female, narcissistic bully and unfortunately, I’ve known many of them and they are forces to be reckoned with.
Jaya Avendel
I love that you connected with this piece; thank you for sharing your personal experience!

It’s my pleasure. 😊

This is a powerful poem that made me think of how women have had to fight to be heard and sometimes some women take it too far and become very masculine.
Jaya Avendel
Oo, I love the way you read this piece; your interpretation is not one I have read into this poem before. Thank you for sharing!

I do not agreeing with hitting children, I think it is teaching them violence and fear. Thank you for sharing this piece Jaya.

Happy New Year!! I love the vibe of this piece. It gives perspective from both sides. From a queen’s perspective, we see them as having to be ruthlesss. But from their children’s perspective, that same person is their mother. This can be said for some villains who end up having to do villainous things because they didn’t seem to have any other choice. They do have those to care about. Great job on this!!

This is such a beautiful and deeply impactful poem, Jaya. I felt some relation to the mother character as even though I would never hit my son, I struggle to manage my anxiety sometimes which makes me prone to a cycle of shouting and then feeling guilty about it. ☹
Jaya Avendel
I am beyond grateful to you for sharing the thoughts this poem evoked in you! Thank you.
It is how we move forward that counts. 🙂

You are so right and I have been a lot more mindful of my actions and reactions ever since reading it. 🙂

😍 Knowing my writing has helped you in your mindfulness fills my heart; thank you!

This is so well written. Its so powerful and yet the meaning behind it is so sad.

Sad but true Jaya! I have always enjoyed historical fiction especially the Aurthurian legends, and now I’m watching the crown on Netflix. It seems so strange to me how the royals in both the books and shows treat there children. It seems much like you describe here. Or else they send them away to be raised someone else.
Jaya Avendel
Historical fiction often succeeds in getting my blood boiling . . . Most often people viewed their children as The Future so their treatment of them often seemed in conflict with their beliefs . . . Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter!

Wow, Jaya, just like everyone else, I loved the poem. Unfortunately, kids are the convenient targets of some parents, They hold them dear, as long as their kids satisfied their needs and demands. You are right, children belonged to their time, not to anyone else. If you respect, support, and love them, you will get a wonderful bond; but still, they are the future generations.
Jaya Avendel
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Sara! I love your musing on what helps create a strong bond.

I absolutely loved this, it told such a strong story! Unfortunately, some parents can be very cruel. Another amazing piece!

Parents can be cruel and violent to their kids, it’s very sad. Probably they learned it from their parents. I agree with Megha, children are a privilege.

Sometimes not only good things are inherited . . . Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Ingrid!

Hmm quite a take on spanking..a practice I always disapprove and I see that you have strongly disapproved in your blog posts
Jaya Avendel
I am glad you are one more person in the world who does not approve of spanking. It is always a curious reflection to me when I think of how some people will defend their children from others but still spank them, which is to me another form of attack.
I wanted to express that here. Thank you for reading!
Megha's World
Yes and you expressed it beautifully. I don’t approve any kind of violence when it comes to raising kids.I read somewhere” Kids are not your property ,they are privilege” which really resonated with me
Jaya Avendel
Me neither. I can see why that saying would resonate with you. Children do not belong to anyone.
Megha's World
Exactly.
