Little Mermaid

Little Mermaid Poem

I did not ask you to pull me from the water

You wrested me to coastline where sand cut my flesh and the

Sunrise made my blood scream.

I followed the breath of the moon to breathe in the ocean

I followed the crystal staircase from sand to ocean floor

I followed the candle permeated with lavender to coral reef

I followed the promise of sunrise to kiss the honeysuckle shore.

When the candle burns low and threatens the sun

When moisture wicks and shivers in the air

When I come alive at midnight and follow the

Lighthouse beacon toward the distant smoky horizon

Stand on the crystal staircase and kiss the moon

Wait for the ocean to reverberate with song

See then the heart of coral bathed in sea foam

Leave my slippers at the lighthouse door.
