Blind?

A joke this must be

It is laughable to see

Where is the lesson?

I love that if you focus on one photo over the other, your poem tells a very different story than if you look at the other photo. Like others have said, it speaks volumes in so few words which is really incredible.
I find that it’s usually the people who think a joke is just a joke that are more likely to use physical punishments against their children. Interesting to think about…

🙂 It was amazing to me as well how much the poem changed if one took in only one of the images!
Love your point on how people who think a joke is a joke are more likely to use physical punishment; thanks so much for sharing!

Your words with then picture say how there’s no good lesson in beating your child, but the words on there own could relate to so many different things

It is always amazing how much a picture lends or takes away from a poem. Thank you!

Great haiku 🙂 Sometimes a joke can be really offensive

I feel this – a joke can really be harmful where we think it is nothing, but to the receiving end, there is some truth. We don’t often think about the consequence of something we wanted to play lightly of.

Indeed. I look to the day when the day will dawn and the world’s children will not be spanked. The circle can be broken if people are willing to break it.

Love this, Jaya! The first image tells a story at it’s face value. The second has a much deeper message. It takes vision and commitment to stop in the moment and choose an alternative response. The audience of two is taking it all in. What do we want to teach our children?

It always amazes me just how much an image can change the meaning of a few words!
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this. 🙂
