Sonoran Dream

Sonoran Dream Poem

Summer sun rises through vertebrae

Erupts across my tongue and

Breaks my teeth.

I spit gold and shimmering hallucination

Set turquoise in copper

Immerse rosemary in

Oasis water.

Opaque color blurs the

Surface of the globe. Breathe on water

Trail hands through impasse

World changes

Moon rises clean.

Light travels up spine

Impregnates collarbone

I intensify

Radiate umami Sonoran dream.

Exquisite imagery, which takes the reader into your heart and that of the desert. I lived in Phoenix for several years, and you have done great justice to what I always term as the majestic qualities of the desert. I miss it sometimes. I hope school is going well for you, Jaya!

I also really like the image you have chosen because it represents the idea of this dream well, of which I recognize myself in particular in the words “spit gold”.

Another great poem. The bit about “Erupts across my tongue and Breaks my teeth” is especially provocative. I can imagine someone’s taste buds blowing up like little nuclear bombs and breaking all the teeth in their jaw
