Book Review: Nature Speaks of Love & Sorrow by Jeff Flesch

Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow Book Review

I am delighted to share an advanced review of the delicate and gorgeous poetry collection, Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow by Jeff Flesch.

When Jeff asked me to read and review his forthcoming collection, Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow, I was thrilled. I admire Jeff’s unique writing style and love the portraits of emotion and life he creates with his words.

Nature Speaks of Love & Sorrow Book Review

The poetry of Jeff is undulating and emotional. It explores love and loss and remembrance. It explores the nature of memory and the sweetness of life. Every word is intentional and every line sinks deep into the heart as the imagery of each poem takes hold and bursts into being.

From the moment I started reading this book, I was reminded of a quote by Cicero.

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” ~ Cicero

If you have Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow, you will have both a library and nature at your fingertips. You will find the flora and fauna of nature delicate and raw in this book, and the library of written emotions and experiences poignant and healing.

Experience the sensations of each carefully crafted poem and the intentionality of the writing, as in “birds live under my skin/wallowing in water, shallow and thin” and the bittersweetness of “out of the love carved out of limbs and leaves/while nurturing our souls, we trade/the sun inside our hearts/for the remainder of our days.”

Explore the magic of memory and love and take in the sights and sounds of nature as created in poetic writing. You will feel the breeze, see the sunset, and sit under the old oak tree.

While Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow is an emotional collection, the balance of love and sorrow is like a wave. It pulls away and pushes toward the shore in a balanced rhythm that is as satisfying as it is beautiful.

I found the overall arc of the narrative delightful and love how the opening and final poems contrast with each other in their reflections yet also provide the perfect “covers” between which the depth of the book unfolds.

Enjoy this rich narrative from your home, from the park, or from the comfort of your favorite haunt. Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow delights time and time again with its enchanting portrayals of love and sorrow and the stunning metaphors it draws between humanity and nature.

I recommend Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow to any lover of nature and all lovers of poetry. It is a powerful and vivid collection you will enjoy poem by poem again and again.
