Vampire At Dawn

What the night hides I embrace

memories exposed to the sun fade

thoughts born in moonlight endure

and cannot be enjoyed.

In my element

I endure

chained by hearts

set free by sorrow

I find my sparkle

I am not a ghost

stop fearing me

cherish me.

  1. Oooh, this poetry reminds me of perceptions. Like people think you’re one way where you feel like you’re someone else. At the same time, you are trying to find who you are too, finding that sparkle. This is a really well-written piece! Great job!

  2. When I was reading this I was thinking of it in the context of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. So often women are asking to be treated well, to be cherished instead of oppressed. Thank you for putting this plea in such beautiful words.

  3. The first stanza made me think of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Intriguing.
The line, “set free by sorrow” is an unexpected contrast that does hold great truth.
Interesting poem with several layers. 💓
