I am delighted to share my poem, Photographs, is published at Visual Verse!
Visual Verse curates an online monthly anthology of poetry and prose written in response to its unique monthly image. It is no secret I love ekphrastic prompts and I greatly enjoyed writing Photographs!
Photographs are memories. In a time where we hold onto and treasure our beginnings and loved ones, photographs are stories.
Old photo albums and scrapbooks are a treasure to look at; tribute to a time when fading visuals were the only way to keep in touch with the faces of loved ones far away or tap into their courage and hope. I find sepia photographs somewhat grotesque and always raw.
Photographs testify to the diversity of people and places, and to individuality. Be unique in your voice. Be a ‘photograph’ in writing and in vision so original that whoever looks at you cannot steal your story because it is full of you.
Many people share the same message but only you will present it your way.
I invite you to enjoy Photographs and let go of the ways you wish to be someone else.

Wonderful news, Jaya! I enjoyed your poem.
These lines stood out to me and I reread them a few times~

Without seeing each other
Without seeing the world.”

“Many people share the same message but only you will present it your way” – this is so spot on, Jaya. And I love the way you’ve correlated photographs of old with Instagram today. Visual consumption at it’s finest!

Wow!
This poem of yours is an important “picture” of how much the idea of image, or better, pubblic image, became something like a MUST, but in all this the soul is lost.
“What forces smile to your face” is a strong expression on which your tears give back the human dimension that none should never forget.
Thank you so much!

Writing is, in itself, also a picture! Love that you felt that. 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your reflective thoughts.

Congratulations. I love our photo albums and photos. I feel some of the stories and history they represent have been lost in the digital age. When my daughters were little, I was an avid scrapbooker. I scrapbooked every milestone of their lives. I was a little obsessive about it because, being the youngest of four girls, there are very few pictures of me as a child. Interestingly, though, both my daughters enjoy looking at their scrapbooks.
