‘December Dreams’ Published at Black Flowers!

It is a delight to share my poem, December Dreams, is included in Black Flower’s Christmas issue, Volume Eight!

Black Flowers is an online art and literary journal sharing thought-provoking editorials on stunning new literary journals, interviews with eclectic writers, and thoughts on past creators whose art and writing changed the world. In addition, Black Flowers also publishes issues of prose and poetry that embrace imagery, feeling, and perspective.

I have no cobblestones or courtyard, but I have been witness to the many rooster fights that take place in my yard when the flock of hens shrinks beyond its capacity for males. Roosters are proud and lovely creatures and their fights are a beautiful and cruel thing to behold. It is reflective to see how wicked these alluring birds are.

The wounded but victorious rooster walks forth proudly, sole lord of the flock. He heals. His rival is dead. It is a bloody reminder that, often, only the strongest survive. I think this is a feeling that has crossed minds throughout the year.

I know most of us want 2021 to be that clean slate ready to be drawn upon. I know many of us want the New Year to be the future, but I believe achieving a clean slate takes work on the part of everyone.

It is possible December Dreams is a prophecy for the future. I do not wish it to be a dark prophecy, only a reflection on what is possible. For me, this poem is a celebration of the goodwill and traditions that bring people together through word, gesture, or blood around the world.

This is the first time my poetry has been included in an issue. It was curious reading the work of fellow writers and seeing how my poem fit into the story being told.
