I wrote this post with WordPress’s new Block Editor and, after much trial and tribulation, I finally found the magic button. In order to create a a space between paragraphs, one must hit shift+enter to prevent WordPress from merging the paragraphs into one. You can imagine my joy at discovering this, since most of my poetry needs diverse formatting.
There is still plentiful turmoil rocking the world’s cradle right now, but I agree that educating ourselves and seeking to understand the problem is one of the best ways to intentionally face any situation. Because we sometimes need our eyes opened to see a problem, I write about little things that hide away and try to be forgotten. Hence Arranged Marriage.
Beneath a mudslide
Lies my heart
Buried because you dislodged
The wrong rock on the
Search for my soul.
In your hand
As rough as the settling dust
The shovel is bent
Like the lines of your palm.
You dig for the rose
Between my teeth
And the diamonds that are my eyes and
Find scattered petals and
An oval of coal.
You weep for your child bride
With a laugh like the sunrise
But I die happy
Crushing your ring between two fingers
Until the jewel pops off and rolls
With your head
Down the slope into the river
Where I plan to take the midnight boat
And sail with the moon.
As always, I love hearing your thoughts on my writing!
