I loved this month’s writing prompt, illusion, over at Free Verse Revolution, so I was thrilled when my poem, Imagine, was accepted for publication! Many thanks to the editor, Kristiana, for taking this piece.
My writing journey began with photo prompts. I wrote fairytales and myths. Even now, when writer’s block seizes me, nothing helps put my pen back to the paper more then a creative challenge to write something in response to a picture, or a phrase, or simply one word.
I love writing in response to something because it is just that: a response. Sometimes what I write is directly inspired by an image or word, but sometimes the connection between the prompt and the writing is more elusive, yet it is still what I felt upon seeing the prompt.
So, without further ado, I invite you to read Imagine, my latest response.
If you look down
Into a
Goblet filled with red wine
You will find your teeth
Have turned the pearly white
Of fey skin and the
Backs of mermaid’s mirrors.
Yet gunshots ring in the white wine
Where your eyes flirt with angel’s trumpet
And there is blood on the
Rim of your cup slowly
Dripping
Dripping
Revealing your sins
Lying stark on a bed or roses
At the bottom of a wishing well
Where fairies cannot fly.
Touch the surface and it
Ripples and
Your fear scurries away
Riding astride a swan as a
Streak of black in its feathers.
Please do feel free to share your beautiful thoughts with me!

Even though I commented on the more recent post, congratulations on getting another poem published at Free Verse! It is great when you have people who are more than happy to work with you and getting your work out there. These are the gems. Sometimes, writer’s block can take the most out of us but that’s why we need to take a break sometimes to replenish our creativity. Hahaha I like this! Red wine gives a reflection. Keep it up!!

Congratulations on getting another poem published! I love how you have interpreted the picture and had a whole verse inspired by it. I can imagine this being read out on stage during a performance.

I dream of being able to read my writing to an audience, but I also think I might get stage fright! 🙂

Whooooop, congrats on getting your poem published! I didn’t know you started out writing fairy tales and myths, they’re some of my absolute favourite things to read. I adore the “gunshots ring in the white wine” phrase, but the whole poem is WONDERFUL, Jaya 🙂 Lisa

The publication picture looks stunning, your use of words in the poem makes the mind wander, then you read it again to get an in-depth meaning. It’s amazing what you write, congratulations on getting your work published
