She Wore Black

She Wore Black Wedding Poem

Standing under the ivy bower

With pink roses overwhelming my hand

I imagined her

Drawing the shadows around herself

Smearing her eyes with mottled moonlight

Bathing in concord grape perfume.

My ankles are heavy with diamonds

Under tulle, they collect shadows

Veiled in washed-out sunlight

She abstracts into reality.

I envied her

Her courage

She wore her third heart as her ring.

On the happiest day of my life

She came wearing black.

Oh, these words are just so emotive. To me it feels like it is showing two sides to a person, especially when ‘imposter syndrome’ sets in. Another fabulous piece!
